What are you looking for?

Our vision is to become a global force for change, one community at a time.

We envision a future where 5alas not only empowers individuals but also amplifies the collective voice of Muslims worldwide. We see mosques as centers of trust, connecting people in need with generous donors and local businesses. By fostering unity, transparency, and empowerment, we aspire to create self-sustaining communities and nurture enduring relationships between mosques and local people.

How does 5alas work for people in need?

Who is eligible for collections?

At a fundamental level, collections from mosques are there for anyone in the community who needs them. Often, people collecting are unemployed or unable to work due to a physical or mental disability. They may be single-parent families or waiting to receive benefit payments. Some will have been struggling to get by for some time, while others may just be coming to terms with sudden unemployment. Some people collecting may even have a job, but it could be poorly paid part-time or zero-hour contract work.

How do they work - can anyone just show up?

People collecting don’t need to make an appointment, but are required to register with 5alas in order to receive an order collection ID. By registering, people will also be notified when collections are available from a chosen mosque. Typically, a food parcel is picked up by the person that needs it. However, mosques will allow them to be picked up on behalf of someone else, as long as they have the 5alas user ID and order collection ID to hand. This can be found in the 5alas dashboard upon registration.

Do they only hand out food?

Mosques give out parcels of household supplies that will typically last between three and seven days. As you might expect, most of it is food: pasta, tinned fruit and veg, rice, tea, and so on. But parcels also include items like toiletries, baby supplies and washing powder, whilst we are working to introduce services such as haircuts, Arabic lessons and Quaran lessons - for people or families who may need help rebuilding their life.

Where does the food come from?

As you probably know, mosques rely heavily on donations through the 5alas website. 5alas members buy essential supplies, from suppliers local to the mosques, which is delivered to the mosques of choice. All suppliers and products are vetted to ensure they comply with the 5alas sustainability standards.
